Abersoch
Abersoch is a beautiful village in Gwynedd, North Wales which is well known for its picture postcard beauty. It has a variety of long sandy beaches, things to do and and places to stay. As a result Abersoch is the perfect holiday destination for a family holiday or a romantic break. Abersoch is close to Pwllheli which is another popular tourist destination. It’s beaches and shore line run along Tremadog Bay. Which is a large inlet of Cardigan Bay on the Cambrian and Llyn coast.

Abersoch – Then and Now
Abersoch, along with many other villages on the Llyn coast, was mostly known as a small fishing hamlet before tourism took over. With the river Soch running into a small tidal bay it quickly became popular with pleasure boating.
There is still a small fishing community based in the port of Abersoch that continues to operate to this day. Although drastically reduced in size you can still watch them unload their catch. Farming was also an important part of life to the village and it continues to be important to this day.

Originally a fishing port, Abersoch is now a tourist centre specialising in dinghy sailing and other water sports. For instance windsurfing, wakeboarding, surfing and jet-skiing are all popular in the area. It has grown to become one of the most important water sports centers for both sailing and surfing in the UK.
Things to do around Abersoch
Snowdonia National Park
There are a wide variety of activities in and around the Abersoch area apart from watersports. Snowdonia National Park covers 823 square miles of stunning landscape and is the largest National Park in Wales. Mount Snowdon is the highest mountain in England and Wales. The largest natural lake in Wales is also in Snowdonia.
As Abersoch is close to Snowdonia National Park there is a huge selection of walking and hiking trails to take. You can even take a trip on the Snowdon Mountain Railway and reach the summit of Mount Snowdon. Or you could take the decision to hike to the top yourself. Although it’s for the serious adventurers out there only as its quite a hike.

Historical Monuments
There is a great choice of historical Monuments and castles to visit around the Abersoch area. Many Castles were built during the 13th Century to protect warring Princes against attack from each other. Harlech Castle is perhaps the most spectacularly situated of all King Edward’s castles. His mighty fortresses at Harlech, Conwy, Caernarfon and Beaumaris (Anglesey) were all built to subdue the newly conquered lands of North Wales.

Beaches
Some of the best beaches in North Wales are located in and around Abersoch. There are a variety of different beaches in the area which all have their own character. Although LLanbedrog beach is possibly one of the prettiest and family friendly beaches in the area. It’s a real bucket and spade seaside resort beach complete with beach huts and a cafe close by. Perfect for family days out on warm days. Abersoch harbour beach also has fine sand and easy access to the village itself.
